living life, choosing joy

Category Archives: Gratitude

I read a post today over at Keeper of the Home that hit me right where I am in my life. Lately I have been feeling discontented about the home God has blessed our family with, and I don’t like feeling that way! I want to see my life as a blessing, not an entitlement. Sometimes I have to daily give my discontent to God, asking that he continue to remind me that I am blessed simply because I am His child, and that no other earthly possessions make that any more or less true.

Does that automatically make my joyful for all of my life’s (little) frustrations? No. But it changes my perspective.  In the post I mentioned above, she quotes Philippians 4:11-13, which is such a needed reminder for me when I need a perspective change.

“I have learned in whatever situation I am to be content. I know how to be brought low, and I know how to abound. In any and every circumstance, I have learned the secret of facing plenty and hunger, abundance and need. I can do all things through him who strengthens me.” (Philippians 4:11-13)

God is good. In the midst of everything – trials and inconveniences, He still loves us, cares about us and continues to be faithful to all of our needs. I may not have an “ideal” housing situation, but it IS what God has chosen to bless us with right now and in this season of our lives. And for that blessing, I CAN choose to be grateful.

Do you struggle with being discontent?
